EROS is spirit moving through desire (intention) and putting flesh into action.
It is said that the 2nd chakra roots the creative energy = both ART & EROS arise here.
I find inspiration when eros is present – it is my doorway to inner realms of dreaming. In this subconscious world, ideas can arise from the integration of elements disparate to the ego – but fused at this deeper realm. THE SKULL PROJECT was one idea that arose from this process. While I do not fully understand this phenomenon, I know that erotic joy brings with it an enlivening of the body. In such a state, energy flows more freely, I feel good about myself, and new ideas emerge.
While EROS arises in all ART, eggs – by their inherent sexual referencing – allow EROS to have a fun, symbolic play within my work. I revel in mixing the yin/yang as I batik/paint phalluses on eggs. Eggs reveal how EROS is fused with generation and rebirth - a more hopeful view of sexual expression.
